Players normally take turns clockwise. On your turn, place a card that matches the top card on the table by color, number or action symbol. If you cannot play a suitable card, draw from the pile. If the drawn card can be used immediately, you may play it; otherwise the turn moves to the next person.

Special cards change the normal flow of the match. Skip makes the next player lose a turn, Reverse changes the direction of play, and Draw Two forces the next player to take two cards and miss a turn. Wild allows you to choose the next color regardless of the current card.

Wild Draw Four also lets you choose a color while forcing the next player to take four cards and lose a turn, although it should only be played legally when you do not have a card matching the current color. Understanding when to use these action cards is an important part of strategy.
